Revd. Patrick Gbanie Kandeh
(BA Hons, CTM, CTPS)
I was born in 1970 in Moyamba in the Southern province of Sierra Leone. I received my primary and secondary education at United Methodist Mission Schools. I arrived in the United Kingdom in the 1990’s and after a period of study at the Y.M.C.A. George Williams College in London for a youth worker qualification, I worked as a youth worker at Walworth Methodist Church. It was during my work as a youth worker that I felt that I was on fire for God and wanted to do more for Him and the Church.
In 2001, I began the process of training as a Local Preacher. In 2003 I answered the call of God in my life and I put myself forward to the Methodist Church through the normal processes for this call to be tested. Later in the same year the Church sent me to Wesley House Cambridge to begin foundation training. After four challenging and exciting years at Wesley House Cambridge, I was stationed as a probationer to the Bromley Circuit in 2007. Following a life-changing and successful period of probation I was received into Full Connexion of the Methodist Church of Great Britain at the Wolverhampton Conference and was ordained at the Coventry Methodist Central Hall in 2009.
I hold a bachelor's degree with honours in Christian Theology from the Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge and various certificates in theology from Cambridge University including a Certificate in Theology for Ministry and a Certificate in Pastoral Studies.
Until my appointment to the Upper Tooting and Broomwood Methodist Churches in the Wandle Valley Circuit in September 2011, I was the minister at Beckenham Methodist Church in the Bromley Circuit. My assignment in Beckenham included pastoral responsibility for Beckenham Bromley Road and Clock House Road Churches, providing Circuit youth leadership development, education, and training, with a particular focus on providing ministry to young people in the Circuit. Among the many other ways in which I presently serve the Methodist Church, I also act as a Honorary Chaplain for the Ash Court MHA home in Broomwood and I serve as a member of the Church’s Connexional Candidates Selections Committee.
Since September, I have been working steadfastly with enthusiasm with a great team of volunteers in my two churches and colleagues of the staff team, building on the good work of my predecessors for the furtherance of the work of the Kingdom of God and the expectations of the Methodist Church. In addition to my current responsibilities in Upper Tooting and Broomwood Churches, the Circuit has also given me the task of chairing the circuit Mission, Youth and Children’s Commission.
I am married to Martha and we are blessed with a lovely daughter Matricia.
My areas of interest includes preaching, children and youth work, exploring mission initiatives, reading, listening to music, relaxing with friends and family and watching football especially when Chelsea is playing.
